A New Want

New Bern, NC

I just finished writing about bucket list aversion. But today, I just found something I really want to experience. Oh well, my list may not be bucket, but it is a list.

My new item is to see the fall colors in the southern Appalacian Mountains along the Blur Ridge Highway. Hereto, I thought of fall colors only in relation to the northeast, NY, VT, MA. But today i saw the picture below, taken this week on the Blur Ridge Higway. Wow oh wow oh wow. Not only are there colors, but the air is less hazy and the views of the valleys are much better than when we were there June 2013.

  1. I've traveled this country a bit, including living in 7 states for more than a year. I have not yet seen a VT, ME or any New England fall colors, but I expect they are magnificent. I say this, because I have seen fall colors in a half dozen states, all of which declare their version to be the most beautiful, the most magnificent and the colors most simply to die for. And it's all true. With the right combination of warm days and cold nights, magnificent colors are everywhere.

But, the fall colors I will never forget, was the Fall of 1979, coming across the Duluth High Bridge and seeing the Duluth hill stretching as far as the eye could see and in full colors. It literally brought tears to my eyes.

Was it any more beautiful than your lovely image above? Probably not. But, there is a story attached to that particular moment that I will not bother you with here. It was that story, combined with the beauty of the moment that was so overwhelming. May life's beauty bring tears to your eyes, every day.

    Cheers.
