Dirty Jobs Day

Marathon
No LL

Today was my day to tackle some dirty jobs. Our toilet has been leaking salt water and our automatic bilge pump stopped working.

I had to remove the head and disconnect the black water pipe. Yuck. In earlier decades of our lives, I always let Libby do things like change diapers. Now somehow, those jobs have become mine. I suppose that's fair, but it isn't fun.

The bilge is dark, dirty, smelly, and oily. The wiring of the bilge pump and the level sensing switch are subject to immersion in water plus chafing; so it doesn't last forever. It took me two hours with my nose in the bilge to do that job. I expect my repair to last for a year.

After the dirty jobs I headed in to shore for a well-earned shower.

I have two more jobs to do. The steaming light and the anchor light, both up on the mast, have stopped working. I'll have to diagnose and repair those things at night, and repair them during the day (assuming that I have to go up the mast to do it)

I also ordered a part to repair the radar, and sent back the GPS for factory repair. The radar antenna had stopped rotating. The GPS has a pad button for up/down/left/right. The pad stopped working and it falls out of the GPS on to the floor. I hate to admit it, but we can't imagine getting along without our GPS.

That reminds me. Have a look at this neat video.
